Haier HWR05XC7 5200 BTU Window Air Conditioner with Remote CustomerReview

I went to another web site to look for a cheap replacement for my Sharp 5000 BTU air conditioner which finally gave out after 14 years of faithful service because I needed one immediately and in my neighborhood. I really wanted another Sharp: (of course), and would have gladly paid 0. or so. Unfortunately none of my searches for an immediately available Sharp or Quasar were succesful. I actually settled for a Haier 5000 BTU that was listed for .99, however when I arrived at their store, this 5200 BTU was the only model available in stock. It came with a remote control, rated at 5200 BTU, with a 9.7 EER. It was marked at .99, but since I really wanted the .99 model they advertised on line, I was able to buy it for .99 plus of course the exorbitant NYC sales tax. All in all my total price was 5.11 plus the . tip to their associate for carrying out, and loading it into a cab. I have no idea of the durability of this model, but judging from its' shoddy appearance, I'm not too confident. Suffice to say installation was a breeze, although I was sweat drenched (due to high humidity, not difficulty of installation) by the time I finished installing it in my 7' by 12' dormitory type room. (Don't laugh - the rent is unbelievably cheap for NYC) It wasn't that hot today, but the humidity was high, yet the unit only took a little over a half hour to cool my humble abode to a comfortable 70 degrees - from 81, already displayed on unit itself, when it started up. A note of caution: The only way to adjust temperature, or even to set it from fan to cool is via the remote control!! The only thing possible on the unit itself, is to put it on and off FAN only! I will be highly disturbed if I misplace, or (God forbid, break) the remote control. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised by the ease of installation, its' quietness, and quick cooling. The price was right, and it has a 1 year general warranty, with 5 years on cooling system! You not only get what you pay for with this model, but a lot more.
